You never thought you would be calling your mom and dad from
college and saying “my professor just did a magic trick.” Well, think again.
American University professor, Barry Gordemer, performs another “mind-blowing”
magic trick.
COMM 200’s Nikki Gale reports.
Former magician and AU professor, Barry Gordemer had another
“magic moment” when he performed for his communication students.
He opened up his orange bag and pulled out a clear latex balloon and a sharp industrial sewing needle
with thread. With those items, students like Reiter Bolt were not so sure what
he was going to do.
After a magic phrase was said, everything slowly began.
Gordemer stalled the trick for an unknown reason. Possibly
for suspense. But, Bolt was not amused when the professor constantly put his trick on
hold.
Eventually, Gordemer completed it. He was able to make
the entire needle and thread go through the middle of the balloon. With every
magic trick, you want to know how it happened. Rebeca Berger has her own theory
about how the needle went through the balloon.
Like a good magician, Gordemer never revealed how the trick
was done. The magic has to live on and we will never know why the balloon
didn’t pop.
