American University professor performs another magic trick for
his class, adding a life lesson with it.
Comm 200’s Yelim Lee reports.
AU communications students sat through a magical class on
Monday. They watched their professor, Barry Godemer, perform a trick for them. The trick was sticking a
needle through a balloon without popping it.
While setting up, Gordemer compared the inflated balloon to
our expectations in life, and the needle to the people who ruins those expectations.
Gordemer acted like he was going to pop it, but pulled away.
He did this a few more times. Finally, he slowly stuck the needle through the
balloon, and it did not pop.
When student Hanya Bruner was asked about how she felt while
this happened, she said
Gordemer told the class that we could protect our dreams by believing in them, like how we believe in magic. Then, he popped the balloon.
When Gordemer was asked about his props, he said
After seeing the act, student Reiter Boldt gave his thoughts
on the trick
