New Gulfstream Aircraft: Differences in Company Press Release and Business Insider Article

There are many differences in the two pieces. The most apparent difference is the length and organization.

The Gulfstream press release is much longer than the article, mainly because of the amount of information. The information is divided into six categories that fully describe the aircraft for all audiences. There is a section on performance geared toward aircraft sales industry magazines, one describing the new flight instruments and cockpit upgrades for the pilot audiences, a section on production for the manufacturing industry, performance and passenger features for business journals, and editor's notes with background information for general publications. The press release makes it easy for writers from different backgrounds to cover this story because the information they and their readers care about is clearly laid out.

Business Insider, a business and technology news site, is written for a more business minded audience. In its article on the new Gulfstream jets highlighted the parts of the release that their audience cares about: what the passengers will like. The article talked about the new cabin features, and included pictures of the inside of the jet. They also gave estimates of how far it could fly from large US business centers: New York, Dallas, and Los Angeles. The article also covered the financial impacts of the new jets. It mentioned the companies that are interested in making large orders, and the rise in the parent company's stock prices.

These differences show that publications must tailor their articles and the information they give is limited to what their audience wants to know.
