News Story and Press Release Comparison

Press release announcement from Big Machine Label, the record label Taylor Swift is signed on to: "TAYLOR SWIFT UNLOCKS 'OUT OF THE WOODS' FROM 1989 ON ITUNES TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14"
(yes, it was all in caps)

The news story from Forbes about the release of Taylor Swift's new song is written in a much more neutral, unbiased voice compared to the press release announcement. This is understandable, though, because the press release announcement is directly from the organization that provided the product, or in this case, produced the song.

The Forbes news article gives the facts, such as the date Swift's new song "Out of the Woods" was released, what album it's from, and how fans can purchase or pre-order it. The article quotes Swift saying, "it's the greatest example of the sound of this album" and has her talking about how she doesn't expect the song itself to get much radio or video treatment. The article goes on to talk about Swift's inspiration for her songs and the controversy that this song has caused due to a new strategy her record label is using in the UK, giving her UK fans slower access to the song. This is a much more factual and humbly written article.

On the other hand, the press release announcement from Big Machine Label talks all about how great Swift is. It mentioned all of her accomplishments including all of her Grammy nominees and awards. I'm not sure what being "a global superstar, seven-time GRAMMY winner and the youngest winner in history of the music industry's highest honor, the GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year" has to do with her new song. It doesn't describe the style of the song, or what the perceived fan feedback. It's all Taylor, Taylor, Taylor.
