The piece of news that I chose to write about is the "Friends"20th Anniversary Pop-Up Central Perk Shop in NYC that is opening to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the premiere of the NBC TV show.
There some key differences between the two forms of how the news is spread about this "pop-up shop."
In the news article, the reporter interviews the actor James Michael Tyler who plays Gunther, a supporting character on the show. In this article, you get to hear more about the personal effects that the show has had on people like it Tyler. The reporter and Tyler talk about his character and how his very small part eventually had an impact on the show overall. They also informed audience members why this "pop-up" shop is going to be something that can't be missed because it is around for such a long time and how characters will be able to do things like sit on the famous orange couch, which in the past had been restricted to the six main characters of the show.
The press release gives more of an overview and does not contain anecdotal elements like the news article does. The release just gives the reader or news reporter an overview of what is going on. For example, it gives basic factual information such as who, what, when, where, why, how. And it is not necessarily written in a story format. For example, a lot of the facts are given in bullet format except for the lead paragraph.
There are many other ways these articles can be written. But, interviewing Tyler was a smart idea because it gets the audience excited from hearing about the event from someone that fans feel connected to.
